The City’s sanitary sewer system is a wastewater collection system composed of service laterals, lift stations, pump stations and force mains. The system terminates at the main pump station located at the City’s Solid Waste Building. Sewage is then pumped across the intercoastal waterway to the Cross Bayou Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant where it is treated in accordance with an interlocal agreement with Pinellas County. The main purpose of this program is to maintain the City’s sanitary sewer collection system to a high degree of reliability. Major emphasis is placed on renewal and replacement of capital facilities to reduce infiltration, inadvertent spillage and sewage back-ups due to system malfunction.
